Craftsy Quilting Courses

The Secrets of Free-Motion Quilting with Christina Cameli

Secrets of Free Motion QuiltingWow…well let me just start out with my summary: I love The Secrets of Free-Motion Quilting and I love Christina Cameli’s teaching style! Each chapter breaks down a type of quilting technique and illustrates how to build on that technique. She also covers ways to deconstruct designs in each of the categories by breaking them down step by step to determine how they are constructed….a road map to reconstructing designs you run across.

The course is broken down into 7 chapters covering designs by category: Nestled, Beads on a String, Emerging, Echoing, Climbing, Branching, and Follow Along.

I was captured immediately with the first chapter’s different ideas for pebbles. I’ve been doing pebbles for some time and love them. She just filled my head with all kinds of new ways of individualizing them. What I love most about this course is Christina explains each technique while illustrating either on the sewing machine or on a tablet. I’m a visual person and so I love this technique. I get frustrated when an instructor spends 10 minutes explaining and 1 minute illustrating….not so with this video.

First Steps to free-motion quilting by Christina CameliThis video does not go into the basics of free motion quilting. There’s no explanation of types of quilting feet, needles, tying off, etc. This is strictly a design video…ideas to use when you are staring at a quilt and are at the “quilt as desired” point of your quilt.  If you are new to free motion quilting and need more detail on the basics then Christina’s  C&T Publishing First Steps to Free-Motion Quilting: 24 Projects for Fearless Stitching is your ticket. I enjoyed Christina’s Craftsy class so much I ordered her book as well, even though I’ve been free motion quilting for several years! I’ll be sharing  my review of this book in a separate post.

Christina’s Craftsy course is so new it’s not part of the current flash sale underway today. But with a little research I found it available on her site for $20 off. This is limited to the next week or so. You can find it here: A Few Scraps : The Secrets of Free-Motion Quilting . She will get a bonus if you buy using her link. 🙂
