2015 QuiltsA Year of BatikQuilts

Timeless

I love taking antique quilt blocks and using them in a contemporary-styled quilt. The mosaic block used in this pattern was first introduced by the Kansas City Star back in 1937.  It’s more commonly used as a scrappy block with each triangle a different color. After playing with the color theme and block size, I chose a two-color foreground and a one-fabric background for lots of negative space using 12-inch blocks. This timeless one-block pattern uses four different color combinations and a half-square triangle border for a totally different look on a popular pattern.

The block itself is composed entirely of half-square triangles. Two methods for cutting and sewing the HST blocks together are included in the pattern with tips for fabric preparation and seam-pressing options.
