The Jane Stickle Quilt – Block K5

Block K5 is foundation pieced. The Dear Jane book shows the diamonds-in-diamond patch as a unit appliquéd to the four-patch block. But as I studied Jane’s block, she clearly pieced the diamonds into the block. This, of course, requires inset seams. I’ve designed by templates with those inset seams. You can, however, choose to appliqué the diamonds by substituting the Unit D measurements for the background fabric needed behind the diamonds.

Note: Unit A and Unit B in the pattern are for the sashing. I chose to make 5-inch blocks like the original rather than sash 4½-inch blocks. If you prefer to add your sashing when your blocks are all finished, just eliminate the A and B units from my pattern. The center sections will then be 4½ inches finished in size and you can add your sashing later.
