The Jane Stickle Quilt – Block H3
Block H3 is foundation pieced. My rendition slightly differs from the rendition in the Dear Jane book. As I studied the image of Jane’s block, it appears to me that she had extra seams to form half square triangles in the center above and below the baskets. I’m not sure why she chose to do the block this way. Those seams were eliminated in the book drawing as well as most renditions I’ve seen on the internet. However, I went ahead and added those seams to my version. It allowed me to add an extra splash of color to my grunge version. You can easily eliminate that seam from the template by using a 2″ x 3½” rectangle instead of the indicated QST in the cutting instructions.

Note: Unit A and Unit B in the pattern are for the sashing. I chose to make 5-inch blocks like the original rather than sash 4½-inch blocks. If you prefer to add your sashing when your blocks are all finished, just eliminate the A and B units from my pattern. The center sections will then be 4½ inches finished in size and you can add your sashing later.
