The Jane Stickle Quilt – Block G8
Once upon a time, I avoided inset seams like the plague. Not anymore. Jane has cured me of that. There are eight inset seams in this pattern…and they were a breeze for me. Who knew? And all those diamond patterns I avoided because of those seams…a whole new world has opened up.
This classic block is made with foundation piecing. The center section is assembled first and then the inset piecing begins.
For those who still wish to avoid inset seams, an alternate foundation template is included that replaces those seams by switching to half-square triangles. It won’t look exactly like Jane’s block but will be close.

Note: Unit A and Unit B in the pattern are for the sashing. I chose to make 5-inch blocks like the original rather than sash 4½-inch blocks. If you prefer to add your sashing when your blocks are all finished, just eliminate the A and B units from my pattern. The center sections will then be 4½ inches finished in size and you can add your sashing later.
