If you don’t want to be overwhelmed with span within minutes of establishing a public blog, you need Askimet! It now comes bundled with WordPress and provides you with a link to sign up for a WordPress.com API key (necessary to activate the plug-in). You can have the plug-in automatically delete spam for you after a specified time period or do it yourself. I recommend the auto delete feature. I recently upgraded a client’s wordpress blog. He had never deleted his spam and had almost 2000 still sitting in his blog database.
