Five-Strip Fence Rail
I decided to try doing a variation of the same pattern I used with Basket Weave.

This quilting process is hard work!![img src=http://hobbystash.com/wp-content/flagallery/sunny-spot-2/thumbs/thumbs_img_0527.jpg]Five-Strip Fence Rail – Completed May 2006
Sunny is hoping I’ll take a little longer to finish this one. I was so frustrated with the quality of my first quilt, I used same pattern with different fabric.[img src=http://hobbystash.com/wp-content/flagallery/sunny-spot-2/thumbs/thumbs_img_0547.jpg]Five-Strip Fence Rail – Completed May 2006
I used 5 fabrics this time instead of 3. Practice makes perfect?? I did a better job matching seams and the light backing fabric helped when I started quilting[img src=http://hobbystash.com/wp-content/flagallery/sunny-spot-2/thumbs/thumbs_img_0549.jpg]Five-Strip Fence Rail – Completed May 2006
I also used a different quilting pattern with clear top thread instead of white[img src=http://hobbystash.com/wp-content/flagallery/sunny-spot-2/thumbs/thumbs_img_0548.jpg]Five-Strip Fence Rail – Completed May 2006
I made this one large enough to fit a twin bed and experimented with 100% cotton batting vs the polyester. I decided I much preferred the cotton.

I decided to take my project from Marti Mitchell’s Quilting For People Who Don’t Have Time To Quilt as I wanted to take another shot at strip quilting to see if I could improve the result. This time I chose Five-Strip Fence Rail on page 11. I did a much better job of matching seams. Unfortunately, I killed my 20 year old Singer in the process.
