Lightning by Dean Koontz

As with most of Koontz’ novels I was sucked into the plot by the end of the first chapter. And time travel with its paradoxes was a fascinating read. I don’t feel this is one of Koontz’ best novels but I did enjoy it.

My Rating: ★★★½☆

Reliquary by Douglas Preston

This sequel to Relic, was almost as enjoyable as the first. The storyline continued with a surprising ending. As much as I enjoyed it, I’m not sure if I’ll pursue this series as I just can’t seem to develop a liking of or loyalty to any of the characters involved. But it’s a fast action-packed read!

Relic by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child

This book was great…as a movie it would be a cross between Jurassic Park and Dark Man. I’ve already purchased but not started the second in this series: Reliquary . The end of the first book left it open for continuation and I’m anxious to see if the plot is continued in the next book.

The Amber Spyglass by Philip Pullman

This entire series was great! This is the final installment of the His Dark Materials trilogy and the series needs to be read in chronological order to make sense. I still believe it would be somewhat disturbing for children under 10 because of the violence.

The Subtle Knife by Philip Pullman

Lyra Silvertongue and her new friend Will Parry continue traveling between worlds in this second installment of His Dark Materials trilogy. Lyra is the keeper of the alethiometer and Will is the keeper of the subtle knife. It’s hard at times to tell who’s the good guy and who’s the bad in this enchanting novel that ends with a cliff hanger. i’m hooked…on to the third and final installment.

The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman

This novel is clearly written for children and I found it thoroughly enchanting. Some of the theme and dark undertones might be somewhat upsetting for children under the age of 10. This is Book One of His Dark Materials Trilogy. I definitely plan to read the entire set.

American Gods by Nick Gaiman

I normally enjoy reading fantasy novels as a change of pace and downloaded this one from Audible based on its reviews and ratings. What a disappointment! There were numerous gods and subplots in this book with a bit of violence. Frankly, most of the gods were unlikeable as were the human characters. Shadow, the main character, meanders through this epic like a zombie with little emotion. Even his love for Laura was ho hum. My advice would be…don’t waste your time!
